How our funds are spent
We believe that not only is it important to raise awareness of the cost of simple healthcare provisions, but also that transparency in how our funds are spent is vital for how to operate a successful organisation. For this reason, under the sections on this page you can see examples of how much simple drugs or laboratory tests can roughly cost (all in Ugandan shillings) currently in rural Uganda. We hope that through expanding our services in the future, the cost can be brought down even further as we are able to acquire machinery or drugs in bulk, thereby helping more people. Due to the hard work of Dr Bakanwa, as of May 2024 we are able to acquire drugs at a reduced market rate which helps us to provide for even more people.
As the organisation is currently run on a fully voluntary basis, our finances are spent solely on the provision of healthcare to those that need it most. Whilst this can take different forms such as covering transport costs or the maintenance of our building, the vast majority of our funding is spent on services such as those mentioned here. Currently, we cover the complete cost of healthcare for those that we treat. In the future, however, as we expand our care and gain a greater understanding of how our finances fit within the goal of building a sustainable organisation, we may explore introducing a greatly subsidised set fee for all treatment. For more information on how we spend your donations, or for a more detailed breakdown of costs, please feel free to reach out through either the Contact or The Team pages.
